Luxury accommodation is booked. The weather promises to be better than Pwllheli. Thursday comes and we are off up to Scotland to dive in the waters of Loch Fyne. Maybe we were a bit too keen to arrive, maybe “joix de vie” just got the better of our accelerator foot or a southerly wind was rather too helpful. A policeman with a speed camera seemed to be taking quite an interest in our progress as we passed under a bridge near junction 17 M74. Lets hope the post strike continues.
To continue. By Friday morning all were present as we drove round the North end of the loch and made for a remote dive site at Lephimor Point. Malcolm, Hugh, David, Carol, Paul, Chris, Melanie, and John. A second dive was done a bit further along. With just a two hour surface interval we were able to maximise the social aspects of the expedition.
Saturday. Stallion Rock. The high point of the expedition. A small matter of a 200 yard slog down to the shore from the car park. But it was worth it. Two excellent dives on an impressive drop off. No sign of any haloclines. Back to base for a great meal prepared by Carol (with help from David!)
Sunday. Kenmore Point not far from Stallion rock. The stresses of the slog down to Stallion rock were showing their effect on the main group. Carol and David decided that the chance of seeing Pachycerianthus in the flesh was too much and did their dive from the Camp site where big Willie is to be found. Their quest was rewarded with 11 of the little varmints.
