Wednesday 25th October

With the weather remaining settled and favourable tides a rare opportunity presented itself for a proper night dive at the Llyn Scuba house reef (Porth Ysgaden).

The advert went out and before the message had finished loading Andrew had said a big “Yes”, especially keen as this would be his 50th dive of the year.

Lowri was the next interested party having to beg / bully her colleague to covering her shift as she too is nearing her 50th dive since commencement.

Laura couldn’t escape work to join us and Melanie volunteered to do shore cover.

A 6pm meet at Porth Ysgaden and we had to scratch our head as to what was required following our Red Sea trip.

It all started well with Dewi putting his suit on the wrong way (not the first time), Lowri had been voted the leader for the dive in a demonstration of collective bullying in preparation for the forthcoming Dive Leader Qualification. With Andrew, Dewi & Lowri kitted up they ventured into the water where Lowri decided she would take us out on the inshore wall.

We were rewarded with an excellent dive reaching depths of 8.5m and viz of between 6-8m. Plenty of life with numerous Lobsters and crabs on the hunt for food, some large Pollock and plenty of fish who seemed to be having a siesta. The star of the show had to be the Octopus who was also on the prowl who seemed unbothered by our presence.

After a dive of 52 minutes we were safely guided back to the entry point by Lowri where we surfaced in pitch blackness with only Melanie’s torch as a reference point. A dive well worth doing , hoping we’ll get another opportunity soon, congrats to Andrew for hitting the 50th dive for the season and Lowri only needs another 1 for her 50th dive, big thanks to Melanie for the the shore cover which is important during night dives.
