The season got off to a reasonably early start, with ten divers meeting up at Porth Ysgaden at 9am for a shore dive, with Nia along to do shore cover. Although the wind had picked up a bit it was from the east so the bay was sheltered and calm with good looking viz. Wil and Laura teamed up with Andrew and Dewi for their first sea dives, while Irfon and Adrian, Peter and Jake and Brett and myself made up the other pairings. There a few of the usual early season mishaps with kitting up, but everyone seemed to have all their bits and pieces, which was an achievement in itself. Most headed off down the far side of the bay in cloudy viz. of about 3 metres. There was not a lot of life but a few lobsters were spotted. There were also at least 3 lobster pots waiting to claimed when next we head out, and some came across a heap of matting? Dive times varied from 32 minutes up to 54, with someone in a semi dry managing an impressive 52 minutes. Those who ventured into the channels in the reef, either by accident or design, were rewarded with some spectacular topography and the odd bit of metal. All seemed to have enjoyed themselves, other perhaps than Adrian who got soaked in his new dry suit!! Those who were free of Mother’s Day commitments then headed on to Rhiw for pizza and scones, a bit of boat scrubbing, followed by more scones and a selection of cakes, plus coffee and tea of course. The boat was then returned to Pendre and is all set to go. Many thanks yet again to Nia for both the shore cover and looking after us so well.
