Sunday March 25th, Trwyn Talfarach and St Tuds.

With the anticyclone having sat above us for a good few days it was worth taking Sea Wasp for a post winter shakedown. The plan was to keep it simple; launch from Castellmarch, hop round the corner to Porth Neigwl, do a quick dive and be home for early afternoon.

All went well, very well, with us launching ahead of schedule, however when we got out of Abersoch and between the Islands and the mainland, it became apparent that the seas weren’t all as flat as a pancake. There was a swell of over a meter from the south which made progress to the dive site slower than anticipated, good job we were ahead of schedule!

Kirk and Irfon volunteered to go in first and test the waters as to speak. The viz didn’t look too promising at the surface, but at 20m or so it was abysmal. However they both managed over 45 minutes bumping into the odd lobster, crab and bits of reef.

Peter James and Wyn opted for a shallower affair at the Islands and decided on a drift at Chez Grills. Being shallower, it was lighter so they had the better viz of the day.
Recovery was a rollercoaster ride in itself, remember the swell, well we were caught out by four or five rollers in quick succession, with the second nearly sending Sea Wasp through the cab of the tractor! Anyways, all in all a good day and many thanks to Hywel and Owain for launching and recovering us.
