Yet again a fine body of men, woops! people, sorry Carol, made their way to Llanberis followed closely by the rain. For Wyn and Peter it was Sports diver compass navigation with a touch of DSMB deployment (SO4) with OWI Hugh. Readers will be glad for Peter and Wyn who both found that they each had a really firm DSMB waiting for them on the surface. Mick with Carol as a body had OWI David for the Dive leader training. As we got out into the pouring rain we felt that it was more pleasant underwater.
It was an early start for the Boat officer to fetch the Rib from Pendre. Accompanied by David Jones they managed to wake the boat from its hibernation and bring it to Neil’s workplace in Minffordd.
The boat was thoroughly washed and cleaned then Neil attacked the engine. The batteries were given a quick boost – everything was cleaned and the tubes given a thorough clean and polish. Neil serviced the outboard and changed the oil, Robin greased the bearings, David cleaned all the terminals and Dewi got lubed up and did nipple greasing!!
The boat is now spick and span and ready to go! It has been decided that the boat will now be winterised before the winter this year !! and also serviced in the Spring. A huge thanks must be given to Neil for allowing us to use his work facilities and to Dewi and David for their much needed and appreciated help.
The Boat Officer.
The headlines: Malcolm Roberts finishes as Boat Officer and the post taken by Robin Jones. Malcolm cited his extra workload and his new interests as his reason for not seeking re-election. Many thanks to Malcolm for all the work he put in over many years. We can continue to use Pendre as before. Irfon Jones has taken over the position of Equipment Officer from Mike Duke, so the post will now be done by someone who enjoys swimming! The Minutes and the Officers for 2006-07 will be available in the Membership area of the Club website.
For the second part of the evening we were fortunate in getting Nikki Wallis to give us an illustrated talk on the Welsh/Italian Expedition to Broad Peak (8047metres) which she went on in 2004. It was excellent talk with some amazing photographs, enjoyed by everyone.
Congratulations to Dewi Jones, Irfon Jones, Susan Jones and Wyn Jones for passing their Sports Diver theory assessment and to David Jones for passing his Advanced Diver theory assessment. Mike Duke has sorted out the misunderstanding with BSAC and will be taking the exam again very shortly. The Glyn y Weddw was used for the assessments.
