Dive Report 7th August 2024

It was hoped to take the club boat out for the day with Lowri having made a plan as part of her Dive Leader / Dive Manager training, but the Weather Gods had decided that it was not to be and Andrew confirmed whilst on dog walking duties along the North coast.
With it being a bit of an awkward slack time it was decided to try out Trefor on a high water slack. Although the Weather Gods had decided to give a blustery westerly five club members decided to give it a go Andrew, Melanie, Mari, Lowri and Dewi.
The swells were rather large coupled with some fishermen on the end of the Pier, they were then joined by numerous families crabbing on the harbour side of the Pier.

M & M as one pairing (Melanie / Mari ) with Andrew tagging along having a play with his new toy (Computer). Lowri & Dewi as the second pairing going to get some CBL and AS lifts done along with some surface exercises and tow.

It was a straight out and back in for all Divers given the fishermen, the viz was a surprising 2-3 meters but it was a bit of a dull affair, but a dive is better than no dive. We all managed between 40-50 minutes, Andrew came out with a beaming smile on his face having had a successful trial run on his new computer, Melanie & Mari found a bit of life which gave Mari some practice with the camera, Lowri & Dewi completed all the lifts and surface exercises.

Dive report Wednesday 14/08/24

Well the phone in showed much interest, with Andrew, Melony, Dewi, Marie, Lowry, Keiron and myself up for a dip. Porth Ysgadan was the venue as the wind was south West and fresh.

We met at 5:30 and the vis was dire but Andrew had been over to Porth Cychod and apparently the vis was gin there. Although there were some gloomy looking faces I told Andrew, well I’m going. Then Dewi informed me that Marie wouldn’t be able to carry her kit over. So I took my kit over ready. Then we all got kitted up. During this period Keiron phoned explaining he was in the car park, but obviously the wrong one. So, no Keiron in that case.

The buddy pairings were Andrew and Mari, Lowri and Dewi, Mel, and myself. So we then proceeded to Porth Cychod, I put Mari’s kit down and put mine on. We did our buddy checks and dive plan and away we went, well I didn’t because my mask strap snapped. So as Dewi and Lowry were doing some lifts Mel went with Andrew and Mari.

I went back and threw my kit in the van, literally! So, Mike and Vi turned up and helped with shore cover, and Malcolm turned up shortly after. Dewi and Lowri did some lifts, but the wind caught hold of them and pushed them out. It looked like we could have an issue as they were heading towards the tide. Anyway, Lowri managed to get back under the water. The dives lasted 45 minutes, and the trio reported many schooling fish. Dewi and Lowri had a bit of a battle testing their biceps pulling themselves along the sea bed. Lowri was also wet through. I carried Mari’s BC and cylinder back to the cars.

I then went home with everyone in tow as we had a dive planning meeting in the gun room. David, Laura, Enlli and Nia then joined. We had a chilled night in the gun room with a barbecue cooking everyone’s choice cuts outside with various parties taking turns in cooking.

So I would say everyone had a good night listening to various stories and exploits of individuals, including the one man wrecking machine Malcolm.

Enjoyable evening, with good company.

Brett.

Dive Report 28th August

The recent storms disrupted any chance of diving, it was decided to do some long overdue surface training. Melanie doing her Diver Cox course being assessed by Dewi who was also being assessed by David, Lowri was undertaking her Dive Manager Rescue Scenarios following Melanie’s completion of her open water drills and Mike was the ever attentative model Diver. The morning weather was miserable but fortunately the start time wasn’t until 12.30pm by which the sun had decided to make an appearance.

Both Diver Cox ( Melanie) and Trainee Dive Leader ( Lowri ) quickly got the taste of tasking and dishing out the order to others with David & Mike being their submissive selves.

All training went well with all concerned  successfully completing all aspects. Congrats to all concerned.

Dewi
