Dive Report Sunday 21st April 2024
After an abysmal winter full of rain and wind it was a rare opportunity for some decent weather for the weekend. Members were scoped during the AGM but there seemed little enthusiasm. The message went out for the Clubs first outing of the season which was a shake down dive at our House Reef (Porth Ysgaden).
Five person decided to venture out and we met at 8am in readiness for the slack at 8.45am. The buddies were Ana with Dewi and a threesome of David , Andrew and Mike.
Water was a toastie 10 degrees🥶 and the life on the reef was very sparse but it was good to get back in.
The threesome went out on the shore side wall whereas Ana and Dewi ventured out on the sea side wall. Depths of 8m were achieved with dive times of around 45/ 50 minutes and viz of between 4-6m. Ana managed to drop 2kg following a weight check and Dewi was soaked through in his not so dry drysuit, but better to have a wet dive than no dive at all.

Dive Report Wednesday 24th April 2024
We went on a dive at Porth Ysgaden. There were five divers in total: the pairing where Jake with Melanie & Andrew, Dewi with Lowri. Mike stayed on the shore for cover. Although the visibility was only 3 to 4 metres, we saw a lot of interesting marine life such as Brown crabs, Spider crabs, Velvet crabs, Lobsters, Ballan and Corkwing wrasse, Pipefish, Small-spotted Catsharks (Dogfish) and White & Yellow Nudibranchs. Melanie even spotted some Sea hares. Our dive time was 50 minutes with a maximum depth of 6 metres . And of course, most of us went to the Lion to warm up. Mike had entered and won the knobbly knees competition, while he was wearing his summer shorts and Dewi’s Drysuit decided to become a wetsuit.
